Ok :x :( , my comp is so f'd up at the moment. I have a virus that i cant delete or quarantene, I dont remember the name of it but i can find out. I got about 250 objects related to spyware, and when i remove the spy ware, it screws up my sbc network connection so i cant go online(im wirelessly connected to the internet to a computer upstairs), so i then have to restore all the spyware to get the connection back not to mention all the pop-ups that come along with it.. Im really in need of help... please any info to rectify this situation will be greatly appreciated.

Im sorry dude but thats some funny shit  Well since its not my problem anyway  Here's what i do: download Bazooka spyware, its free and it won't remove anything but it'll automatically take you to the page you need to show you how to manually remove any virus. If youre using a good spyware remover then it'll tell you the purpose of each item so you can choose which one will be safe to remove. Start removing till you find out which one is fucking up your connection. And if you're using bullet proof spyware remover get rid of it now! Youre probably removing the winsock file which is needed for internet connection. and for god sakes keep your antivirus updated!! oh and download spyware blaster for free to keep spyware from getting on in the first place,,,be sure to keep it updated as well...good luck

I hope to god you are using windows xp. The easiest way to remove all of this, would be to do a system restore. If you are using XP your computer will make various restore points along the way, at predesignated dates, and instalation points. If you can identify which date you first started having the spyware problem then you can use system restore, and maybe lose a few installs but its a hell of alot better than having all that shit on ur system. Anyway it rollsback your registry to an early date. To use it in XP go to Start>All Programs> Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Once you get there it is self explanitory. If you dont have xp there are alot of programs that can help you, I will show u some later. Good luck!

Simple solution to your problem.. write all this down before you do it though...

Step 1: unplug computer from outlets, phone lines, and other such wires..
Step 2: open window, preferably one that is a 2 story or higher
Step 3: Pick up computer
Step 4: Throw computer as hard as possible out of window

Points are awarded on orginality, distance, and # of old ladies killed in the process.

Now GO!

that's sadly effective

another effective method of reducing the chance of viruses is switching to linux, the only problem with that is you need to know a lil more than when using windows.

Still can't get over the truth of most of that video. lol. But seriously, that would have applied only to pre-G4/pre OSX systems. Macs have come a damn long way from those dumb glitchy days. I certainly can vouch for it coz I havent had a problem with my G4 since I got it 23 months ago.

Honestly, I only had two hic-cups in all that time: first one happened when I installed MS Office X. (Why the fuck I did that ... I'll never know!)

The second time was when I changed from Netscape to Mozilla. In between trashing Netscape and configuring Mozilla, IE came on from one of my default folders to try and assist me. Forgot the sucker was still there like a sleeping agent waiting for orders to kill!

Apart from that, its a very reliable, fast and problem free machine. No matter what anyone sayz.

This has gone way off topic fella's, Honda asked us for help, hes a good poster we should try and help him as much as we can.

Honda, Have you tried Reg Cleaner: http://www.webmasterfree.com/regcleaner.html :?:

Honda what anti virus prog do you use? If its to the point where any fix you try just screws something up, it might be time for a reformat. first do some research on the virus to see if it just simpily requires another method of removal. What was it called again?

Yes you could always do it blazin's way and copy over all the files u need to cds and then FDISK but there is always the pain in the ass of installing new drivers, service packs, software, etc.

damn im back, I been trying to deal with this pos all day, I think I found wut is causing the problem, but still cannot remove, I am running Ad-aware 6 and my virus protection is Norton Corporate Edition. The virus is a trojan horse and is in my winnt32 folder and is called mssq32.exe mssq. or something like that. The spyware junk that ad aware is picking up is by Vendor :SahAgent type : LSP Object : data minor the lists the object names ..for those who have offered advice, I thank you,

Pimp, I am going to try your link right now My computer is running so slow at the moment so its hard for me to view this forum let alone other web pages. I am to the point were i will try anything, and Im about to do wut jess had said and throw this shit out tha window.. The virus and wut ever the ad aware picked up are in the same file, do you think they are all linked together?

Yes you could always do it blazin's way and copy over all the files u need to cds and then FDISK but there is always the pain in the ass of installing new drivers, service packs, software, etc.if the files are important enough its should already be backed up, but reformatting is a last resort, identify the virus first then look for another fix first

IHateHonda
07-22-2004, 01:39 AM
The virus protection wont allow me to clean/delete/quarentine the virus at all. I think that is wuts causing everything, but the data minor is wuts making my SBC network connection screwy when i remove the minors from my computer. It causes the network to not minitor the connection causeing me not to be able to get on the web/us any instant messanger program..

Honda my bad if i made it seem like i was laughing at "you", we've all been there bro...viruses, spyware the whole bit. You really should try bazooka spyware though mainly cause it will find things you don't even know about. Since you know what files need to be cleaned then you could always copy those files from your other computer, delete the infected ones and just replace. I think you said you had another computer right? If not i could send them to you if you need. Anyway the more spyware and infected files you have, the closer you are to needing a reformat, happened to me about 3 months ago.

Ive a slight hitch on my system, Some how when im using windows movie maker or when watching movies or just at random times my machine just restarts. Any one had this problem?
Plus the guys who are having probs with spyware etc, be careful what software you donwload. Kazaa is a big culprit for letting spyware in as well as other shareware, I recommend AVG anti virus. Its free and you can download regular up dates for free when there available.

I'm trying to upgrade this pos. I'm changing the video card out and it is pci. Old i know. The card i just bought is definately a pci, it says so but will not fit into the slot that my old card is in. It is definately not an agp slot, way smaller. My question is that i have 2 other slots that the video card will fit into. Can this work? I've tried it but nothing comes up on the monitor. IF so is it a change in the bios that needs to be done?

Duke, are you saying that you've put it in the other PCI slots? Yes, that should work. A PCI is a PCI. If it's not working it could be the BIOS. But sometimes I've had a hard time finding a modern video card that is dumb enough for an old computer. These gamer video cards you get at Best Buy pull way too much power for the older BIOS and/or power supplies.

Do you get any motherboard beeps when you boot up that you aren't used to hearing? Do you see video during the BIOS boot up and then you loose it when Windows starts or is it black right from the start?

Please help me. I'm not giving up on this old fuck just yet. The screen is black at all times when plugged in, even when it beeps, but it does beep, and my bro says that the computer knows the card is there. My question is, could it be that my power supply is too low? I believe it is 160w which i'm sure is lower than what is recommended, so is it possible that without enough power, the card will not produce to the monitor? Or should it atleast come on with this extreme low power? The fan on the card runs, but i see nothing. I'm just trying to narrow it down till i know its not gonna work for the sake of the $100 bucks i paid for this fucking hard to find pci video card. The frick'n agp version of this card is less than half price!!! Help

Preferred User
12-03-2005, 07:15 PM
Duke if that power supply is really just 160 Watt I highly suspect that. Assuming there is no problem with the video card or the way it's seated in the slot, then by all means a horseshit modern video card could pull enough to swamp a 160 Watt supply, much less a decent video card.

There is a code to motherboard beeps. Just Google "motherboard beeps" and you'll get a listing. If it's just one beep, that can be normal boot up. But any combination of beeps is the motherboard trying to tell you something.

Go buy at least a 300 Watt supply. If it doesn't help, take it back. But I've seen this one before with an old computer. It can be very tough to get an old fossil to work with a Best Buy video card. If possible, get the simpliest, dumbest video card you can find, but try that power supply too.

12-03-2005, 09:04 PM
Hey Duke,

What happens when you put the old video card back in the mobo? If everything goes back to normal and only screws up with the new video card, then more than likely you need a new power supply. I would probably go with at least a 350 watt supply but I guess that depends on how long you plan on keeping the old thing working. Shoot, I just pitched an old 200 watt supply that I thought I'd never have a use for. Also, if your not planning on keeping or rebuilding the box, consider finding a used store around you somewhere. You can probably get an old NVidia 64 mb board for $20 to $30 (or less).

I finally got it working!! It was because i could not uninstall the old drivers so i disabled them. Now i have the newest drivers and it will not read them apparently because the old ones are still there? I even tried a drivers uninstallation program that didn't work! When my computer is restarted it says new hardware detected!!!!! Damnit i've loaded that disk a million times and the stupid fucker still says its new. It looks 50 times better on games, but the fps is waay too low, and it doesn't affect it when i lower the quality or resolution so it leads me to believe that it isn't using the drivers that i have installed. I have xp pro, so does this mean that when i look for the latest drivers for my card, i should get xp pro display drivers, or are there seperate drivers dealing with games/graphics, because all i could find were the xp display drivers? I still need to get a new power supply, this one is choking, and i appreciate your help guys! ;)

mindido
12-11-2005, 12:13 PM
Duke,

Hoo boy, where to start. I think, if I were you, that I would go get that power supply ASAP and stick it in. It could take care of that fps problem right off the bat as I'm about 90% sure that the lack of power is choking the video card.

Just went back and checked your initial post on this and need some clarification.

"hard to find pci video card."

Your installing a PCI video card? Does that mean that you also have an AGP in the box? So your intent is to run dual video? With dual monitors? If those are correct, then you have to get the power supply as video cards are known to draw more power than virtually everything else in the box. And if your trying to run dual video, you might want to get a more powerful supply. I was just checking yesterday, and a 500 W supply at CompUSA is about $100.

Please answer these questions and we'll see whats next.

Duke E. Pyle
12-11-2005, 04:43 PM
yeah the new card is pci, and im throwing away the old agp card. The whole problem started when i tried putting my bro's 9800 agp card into my computer. It was way too long to fit into my slot so i just assumed that meant that the slot was pci. So i bought a pci card, and now i find out that the slot was agp, so apparently the newer agp cards are a little different or something because the box my motherboard came in clearly shows the slot as agp, and my old card says agp, but the 9800 wont fit. Next week i'll get the power supply, you're right, i bet the card isn't getting the power it needs.

mindido
12-11-2005, 06:08 PM
Duke,

Are you sure the 9800 won't fit into the AGP slot? Newer (the last 4 or 5 years) AGP cards have an extension on them that basically allows the back end of the card to fit into a small hole that locks the back end into the slot. But on most of these cards, they should still fit into the AGP slot. They just won't lock down. Have you tried that? Put the old card and the 9800 next to each other and compare them. There should be a length at the front where they are the same, and then a break, and then the extension. If thats the case, try actually sticking the 9800 in the mobo (carefully). It should fit. As far as I know, an AGP is an AGP.

Personally, I would return the PCI card and keep the PCI slot open for other things. Stick with an AGP. Oh, and don't throw the old AGP card away, keep it around if, for no other reason, testing. I have two old 64 MB NVidia cards that I use for testing or emergency.

And do pick up the power supply, the 9800 sucks a lot of power.
