The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved a new domain name for pornographic web content Wednesday – .xxx.

ICM Registry, the company that submitted the application to register the new domain claims the new suffix will help to regulate porn, protecting children from illicit content. Websites that register to use the suffix will be expected to put in place measures to protect children from unwittingly viewing their content, however, so far there are no plans for mandatory compulsion for pornographic sites to switch from the more common and less expensive .com to the new .xxx.

Hooray, I mean I’m innocently scouring the net for porn and much to by chagrin I keep getting inundated with religious sites about saving my soul and shit. Its terrible, I have sought out ways to filter all the moralistic crap and yet no luck so this is a real bonus. :computer:

Don't get too excited. The adult industry will be fighting this and raising hell about it.

"regulate porn", yeah thats its. in other words, get rid of it and put thousands of people out of work. apparently the government would rather have high unemployment and a larger welfare budget, then allow the porn industry to survive

Its simply the latest in a string of new restrictions lately. Trying to corner and eventually smother the entire industry. Its those damn "religious right" crazies and their equally crazy republican counterparts.

Some of the new restrictions may even lead to the downfall of this site (such as the new 2257 bill)

I may have to remove the main site galleries in the very near future, although I plan to leave the forum up as long as possible.

cman, i am not the religious right, but i have been labeled as a "crazy republican counterpart" before... i must defend my honor and say that it really isnt like that... there are some, yes, but there are also those on the left who will speak and vote the same way out of political expediency... please do not throw that particular stone...

that said, i like the .xxx thing, but not as a law... easy to find, you know what you will be looking at, etc... im with mindido, please provide more info, and if there is something here in the US that can be done to prevent this, i want to know more... if your complaint is valid, and if the proposed legislation is, in fact, evil, i will do everything i can to oppose it... i need more info, though...

cman, is this what you were referring to?? if so, it is a legal action brought by a company, and not any government action... also, my new and brief knowledge of what 2257 is tells me that it is simply the legal cya stuff that says models are 18+ and other such things... also, i couldnt find your 2257 statement... since you are in canada, are you exempt from needing one???

is this what you were referring to???

i don't fully understand the 2257 thing myself, but its BIG and the big guys in the industry have been talking about it for the past year.

i don't have one on exp0sed yet, because i haven't yet received all the necessary info. if i do get caught without one though, i might go to jail.

the only way i WOULN'T go to jail is possibly because i'm Canadian, but if i was in the US i definetely would.

Well it can vary depending on where you buy them, but on www.new.net , they are $35 for one year and $60 for 2 years. You can get other TLD's (com, net, org etc) from other registrars, such as Go Daddy, for under $10 a year.

I'm not sure what you mean by backwards compatible.

I don't know what is going to be made of this situation, whether it will unleash inter-hell, or be a puff of smoke, but I decided to buy a couple just incase.

I have exposed.xxx (spelled correctly) and celebs.xxx ;)
