just to make it clear, once you have downloaded the zip file from the website, unpack/extract/unzip the .reg file to your desktop, then run the .reg file. -

It sounds like your registry has lost its .exe file associations. the following link is for a zip file which has a .reg file inside. Run it and restart your computer and all will be good. Its for WinXP, but still works with Win7 http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_exe_fix.zip -
