Alex Karras, the former American footballer-turned-actor, has died at his home in Los Angeles aged 77.
He remains best known for his role as the illiterate outlaw Mongo in Mel Brooks' comedy Blazing Saddles, in which he punched a horse unconscious. He also starred in the 80s sitcom Webster, opposite his wife Susan Clark. He made his screen debut towards the end of his sporting career, in 1968, playing himself in the American football drama Paper Lion, alongside Alan Alda. It spawned a number of television appearances, including a memorable role in The Odd Couple series. Film credits included a sheriff in Porkys and a gay bodyguard in Victor/Victoria. He had been suffering from kidney failure, dementia, heart disease and cancer in recent years, his family said. |

Larry Hagman, who spent more than a decade playing TV villain JR Ewing has died at the age of 81, his family says.
Hagman, who had suffered from cancer and cirrhosis of the liver, died in hospital on Friday afternoon, according to a family statement. "Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most," said the family. "He was surrounded by loved ones." Long-time friend Linda Gray, who played Sue Ellen, was by his bedside. "Larry Hagman was my best friend for 35 years," said Ms Gray in a statement released by her agent. "He was the Pied Piper of life and brought joy to everyone he knew. He was creative, generous, funny, loving and talented and I will miss him enormously. "He was an original and lived life to the full." During 13 years as the most scheming oil tycoon in Dallas, JR in his Stetson became one of the most distinctive faces on television screens across the world. |

US actor Jack Klugman, who starred in hit TV series in the 1970s and 80s, has died at the age of 90.
He passed away in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon, his son Adam said, without giving further details. Klugman played a no-nonsense medical investigator in Quincy M.E. and a sloppy sports writer in The Odd Couple. The actor lost his voice to throat cancer in the 1980s but later trained himself to speak again. He returned to acting in the 1990s. In his later years, he guest-starred on TV series including Third Watch and Crossing Jordan. Off-screen, he owned racehorses and enjoyed gambling. |

Retired US General Norman Schwarzkopf, who led troops in the 1991 Gulf War, has died aged 78, US media report.
Gen Schwarzkopf - known as Stormin' Norman - was commander of coalition forces in the first Gulf War in 1990-91. Former US President George H W Bush described Gen Schwarzkopf as "one of the great military leaders of his generation". Gen Schwarzkopf spent his retirement in Tampa, Florida, where he had served in his last military assignment as commander-in-chief of US Central Command. He came up with a great catchphrase, when asked what to do do against an Apache helicopter, he said 'be somewhere else'. Last edited by jonboy; 12-28-2012 at 10:00 PM.. |

US actor Charles Durning, who starred in the 1980s film Tootsie, has died at the age of 89.
He died of natural causes at his home in New York City on Christmas Eve, his long time agent Judith Moss said. Durning was nominated for an Oscar for his role as a corrupt governor in the 1982 film The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, which co-starred Burt Reynolds. A year later, he received another nomination for Mel Brooks's To Be Or Not To Be. The World War Two veteran began his career on stage in the 1960s with the New York Shakespeare Festival. His first national exposure was in 1973 when he played a crooked cop who gets conned by Robert Redford in The Sting. Durning went on to appear in more than one hundred movies and critics marvelled at his ability to play diverse roles, dubbing him "the king of character actors". "I never turned down anything and never argued with any producer or director," he said in 2008. |

Born in Hampstead, London in 1935, he directed more than 30 films. Winner had been ill for some time. Last summer, he said liver specialists had given him 18 months to live. He established his own film company, Scimitar, in the mid-1960s and made a number of satirical films starring Oliver Reed, including The System and I'll Never Forget What's 'Is Name. She began dating Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius in 2012, and was found shot dead at his home on February 14th 2013. This beautiful, intelligent, caring young woman was apparently murdered by this worthless scumbag... absolutely tragic. |

"On February 17, 2013, neighbors called the Sheriff's Office of Cleburne County, Arkansas, reporting gunshots. Country singer Mindy McCready was found dead on her front porch, the same place where her former boyfriend and the father of her younger son had killed himself one month prior. Her death was from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. She McCready's two children remain in foster care and were not home at the time of her death." -wikipedia I'm not familliar with her work, but I do remember her on Celebrity Rehab. what a shame for the kids she left behind.
