OK so I got a laptop and I had AVG 8 and it was blocking my MSN I followed all instructions to allow access but still unable to connect and receiving the 8000401a problem. After consulting the net i uninstalled AVG thinking this would solve the issue only find my MSN still not connecting. I reinstalled AVG in a hope that a new version would sort the issue but with no luck i then uninstalled again and used the avgremover but i still am faced with the same problem. if anyone knows how to remove all avg files or just anyway around this issue would be very helpful thank you

phynix,

AVG can block specific sites but, a likely culprit could be your firewall or your browser.

What browser are you using? Any other security apps which are always running? If your using Firefox, do you have NoScript and AdBlock+ installed? NoScript could be blocking a script that MSN requires. Lastly, could you have denied a cookie that MSN requires?

Just a couple of ideas.
