Why would I want to click some text link and wait for the pic to load, when I don't know what I'm waiting for. Especially with the amount of crap pics some people post, the text link is a just a way of hiding the crappiness of the post.

I wouldn't buy a pair of shoes without seeing them first. Can you imagine a clothes shop where every item was hidden away in a drawer which was labelled with some nonsensical, nondescript string of text. Allowing you no way of selecting the items you like other than opening every drawer in the store. That place would be really popular.
