I was just thinking about the much ruminated and contemplated 'Thanks' button and why some thank, but most dont.

Heres what makes ME click thanks:

1. if I like a pic someone posts.
2. if I SAVE a pic someone posts (similar to above).
3. if someone posts a leaked cell phone pic/a nip-slip/a wardrobe malfunction, regardless of whether I like the celeb or not
(because I want to encourage those type of posts, as they are REALLY what this site is about. nudity.)
4. if its someones first posts, because I want to encourage them to post more.
5. if its one of my top favorite chicks (example: JLH, Alison Brie, Elisha Cuthbert, et cetera) regardless if I like the pic.
6. if its one of the top posters that keep the site running (like your 'friend26's, 'yakovitch's, 'jonboy's and the rest in their strata).
7. if I'm just feelin' nice at that moment (rare).
8. and lastly, sometimes I'll thank someone that uses one of my favorite file hosts, because I want to encourage the use of those few sites I prefer.

There are 209,637 members currently. And yet some posts get little to no thanks at all. Then youve got those big posts, like leaked Vanessa Hudgens or Scarlett Jo nudes, and even those might only get 100 or so thanks, even though every single one of the 200k members probably looked at, saved them and got a little excited tingle at first view (or am I the only one that gets the 'new celeb leaked nudes tingle'?)

Some of the major posters have actually got discouraged by how little thanks they were getting and cut back on posting pics.
Some people I see have posted a 100+ pics themselves, received 500+ thanks for said pics,
and yet they've never thanked anyone once.
'Thanks: 0'

I'm interested in what makes others thank. the psychology of, and thought process behind, why YOU thank.

So please, lets discuss...what makes you click thanks?
and why do you think so many people DON'T thank?

oh, and anyone that replies in this thread and doesn't thank this post is a friggin' jerkoff.

1 - I like the post.
2 - The person is a regular contributor.
3 - It's one of my favourite celebs/glamour models/pornstars.
4 - The person is saying hello in the welcome thread.

We could be here all day I suppose.

I have to admit that I probably haven't said thanks as much as I should do but been pretty busy posting these last few years not just here but elsewhere as well.

ah, see I never even go in that thread. I should check in there and thank the new kids sometimes.
y'never know if the thanks in there will encourage them to post elsewhere.

hey, c'mon now jonboy, you've posted 6k+ times and thanked 3k+ times. I'd say thats a fine ratio my friend.

well hey, I'm a member since 2004 and I've only got 1,800 myself.
i'm really rinky-dink.
my excuse is I didnt even realize the 'thank' button existed 'til 6 or 8 months ago or so
(and didnt decide to stop lurking and start posting 'til a few weeks ago)

speaking of lurkers, I wonder if they ever click 'thanks' or not.
maybe since they arent involved they think 'fuck it, why bother?'...

it'd be nice if some lurkers crawled out of the darkness to tell us their thanking habits here

Don't bet on it!

I love the way when they rarely do stick their heads above the parapet & claim they are not lurkers & contribute, but then their lies are exposed by their own stats.

In my view I consider lurkers to be essentially 'parasites' leeching off the time & effort of others without even saying thanks.

Prove me wrong people & I'll apologise!

5+ points for use of "parapet"

jonboy has laid the gauntlet down. any lurkers wanna pop out from under the bed to defend the thanking habits of the lurkers?

and just as a reference: this topic has been viewed 50+ times so far.
hitherto jonboy and I are the only ones posting and the only ones thanking in this thread. I'm starting to wonder if posters wont want to talk about their thanking habits because their slightly embarassed 'cause they know they dont thank enough...

EDIT: "hitherto jonboy and I are the only ones posting" and GrapJ just burned me, lol. I'll let it go this time Balki.

A prime example:

I posted a porn vid on another forum & got thanked four times, but viewing the download stats it was taken 30 times - so 26 leechers didn't say thanks but benefitted from their left or right hands being exercised that day.

Needless to say I removed the vid link so no more ungrateful leechers could get it.

and just as a reference: this topic has been viewed 50+ times so far.

But remember you and I have been dipping into this thread so a lot of the views are probably ours!

@jonboy: yeah, thats true.

I'm just so used to other forums its made me impatient. For instance, I was Head Mod on a smallish music forum (about 500 members) and when I would post a new topic, it would have 50 replies within a few hours.

it seems topics here are slow burners. with people having days between repies. plus the more we banter, the more intimidating it might be for someone to jump in and reply. those lukers are a skittish bunch.

btw, I love that you just went back and took their porn away.

In content threads I thank the posts from which I've d/l'ed from. In discussion threads I thank the posts that I consider to be constructive to the forum. And to sum up why I think a lot of members don't click "Thanks" after grabbing what was made available to them... apathy.

As for "lurkers"... considering I've only been an active member here for about the past 2 years, you could say I was one for the first 5 & 1/2 years. I used to come here a few times a week to see what was new, and I guess the reason I didn't thank back then was because I was a little embarrassed that I hadn't contributed anything. So there you have one former lurkers perspective.

thanks for posting yako

@yakovitch: you really only 'thank' posts you've d/l'd pics from? cause I see you thank a LOT of posts.
and I thought I had a pic d/l'ing addiction, lol

I have to completely agree with apathy. and I totally get that, cause I'm apathetic to about 98% of human life myself.

as far as being a former lurker, you set a great example:
from lurker, to an interacting member, to a major poster, to Super Moderator.
its a Cinderella story.

- yes, it's a debilitating affliction.

- really? sounds blissful.
