Image Posting Question...

OK, so I'm new to the whole image posting thing and I have a question.

Say I see a set of pics say on another message board somewhere and I want to post those pics here in the correct celeb thread with thumbnails.

Instead of downloading the pics, re-uploading them, and then posting the links couldn't I just click on QUOTE in the thread where I saw the pics, COPY the URL links and post those? This would totally bypass the re-uploading of the images. I mean, if I just make sure that the host of the pics is one that hasn't banned us, wouldn't that work? Or am I overlooking something? Is this bad board etiquette?

This, of course, is an alternative to just posting a link to that other board's thread which would be a lot easier, but then we wouldn't get the thumbnails. And, of course, this does not pertain to images that are not hosted somewhere else on the web - i.e. I've got them on my hard drive.

The whole process of downloading, re-uploading and posting just seems so redundant. Especially if all we need is the original hotlink.

If the free host they are using is not banned here, and they are not registered pics by that person (some free hosts make you register, and then you can track where the pics are posted), then that is the easy way to do it.

I know a couple people here who do that. You just have to watch what the pics are hosted on, and maintain them if they die.

Alright cool. Thanks. Yeah I'll just make sure that the host is one like ImageVenue that hasn't banned us and doesn't require you to register. It sounds like this could be a little risky though, so I'll be careful and only do it sparingly.

And it appears IV has banned porn. Its front page now says "Warning: no adult content allowed."

Its probably just to cover their ass. Lots of companies "say" that, but don't really care or at least, dont' enforce it

Just saved me from asking the same question with IV!

Let's hope so, otherwise most pics will be gone. Would you say it's safe to keep using then?

To be completely honest, I wouldn't say its "safe" to use any of them, but you have to work with what you got.

The only hosting that is truly reliable, is the kind you pay for (like the kind that hosts this site) ;)

What is going on with ImageVenue? Has anyone else noticed how 1 out of every 10 pics that gets posted screws up after about a week. I've had to fix 2 of my posts already cuz my original pic was replaced by sum random asian woman. So if you use ImageVenue I would recemend checking your old posts to make sure they havnt screwed it up. I have already been yelled at by a mod for these dumb screw ups. Does the search for a new image hoster begin? If so "You have my sword". sorry for the lame LOTR's analogy, but it just fit so well.
