My system has been locking up a bit lately. Can't seem to figure out why. Used multiple scanners to check for viruses but there isn't a virus on my system.

Sometimes Windows Explorer has to close. When asking for specific details it gives me this:

EventType : BEX P1 : explorer.exe P2 : 6.0.2900.5512 P3 : 48025c30
P4 : unknown P5 : 0.0.0.0 P6 : 00000000 P7 : 03eb9290
P8 : c0000005 P9 : 00000008

Any ideas?

Get Firefox.
Not being sarcastic, many people prefer it.

delete your browsing history, and if you can pass it on "CCLEANER"

* if you have installed updates, and does not resolve the problem by deleting your browsing history, then try to restore the system to the previous point where everything was fine
good luck ;)

Guys, I think he's talking about the OS itself, not Internet Explorer.

It's an explorer issue...not internet explorer.

I ran CCleaner (among all my other scanning programs) and the issue still presents.

I can't do system restore. It won't let me.

Again, I'm not sure why the system is locking up at times. I provided the error code at the top

Go to Microsoft.com, and email tech support to find out what the error code means, and how to fix it.

If System Restore does not leave you might have some file corrupted memory of wind, or you have some virus.

The next time it locks up, note the exact time it hangs and then immediately reboot. Once back in Windows, click Start -> click 'Run' (if XP) or type in search (Vista or later) -> type 'eventvwr.msc' (w/o quotes) -> pay close attention to the 'Application' and 'System' error logs and look for an error (red exclamation) that coincides with the time of the error/freeze. Copy & paste that info in a reply.

Also, have you installed any new software, hardware and/or drivers since the freezes began? These are very common causes of crashes.

To test this, click Start -> click 'Run' (if XP) or type in search (Vista or later) -> type 'msconfig' (w/o quotes). Click the startup tab and then uncheck the 'Load startup items' box. Now reboot and see if the system freeze continues. It is stops, then you have faulting software. Otherwise, perform the above in reverse order to revert the changes.

Next, let's check your hardware & drivers... click Start -> click 'Run' (if XP) or type in search (Vista or later) -> type 'devmgmt.msc'. Do you see any question marks and/or exclamation marks? If yes, then you may have a hardware or driver issue. If not, close the Device Manager.

You may also want to physically inspect your hardware and connections for things like loose cables, dust build-up, overheating, etc.

As a last resort you may want to run Prime95 x86 for 32-bit operating systems or Prime95 x64 for 64-bit operating systems to stress test your processor. MemTest86 will test your RAM/memory for any issues. Together, these will help detect any signs of hardware failure.

Post back with any finds and we can go from there. It would also help if you listed which operating system you are using (Windows XP Service Pack 3 judging by your error message, please confirm).

The freeze occurs when I open MY DOCUMENTS and try to scroll and then try to open a movie file...primarily and AVI.

The system freezes, then talks about a Data Execution issue and Windows needs to close.

I clicked on the link that Windows provides and it gave me this info:

Understanding Data Execution PreventionData Execution Prevention (DEP) helps prevent damage from viruses and other security threats that attack by running (executing) malicious code from memory locations that only Windows and other programs should use. This type of threat causes damage by taking over one or more memory locations in use by a program. Then it spreads and harms other programs, files, and even your e-mail contacts.

Unlike a firewall or antivirus program, DEP does not help prevent harmful programs from being installed on your computer. Instead, it monitors your programs to determine if they use system memory safely. To do this, DEP software works alone or with compatible microprocessors to mark some memory locations as "non-executable". If a program tries to run code—malicious or not—from a protected location, DEP closes the program and notifies you.

DEP can take advantage of software and hardware support. To use DEP, your computer must be running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later, or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later. DEP software alone helps protect against certain types of malicious code attacks but to take full advantage of the protection that DEP can offer, your processor must support "execution protection". This is a hardware-based technology designed to mark memory locations as non-executable. If your processor does not support hardware-based DEP, it's a good idea to upgrade to a processor that offers execution protection features.

SASKUTIL

2. As I mentioned, the only time it freezes is for the most part, when I open Windows Explorer, scroll down, then try to click on any AVI file. Then it freezes or prompts the Data Execution message.

I did update my DIVX...and that may have been around the time that the freezing issue occured...but I'm not for certain.

3. Running reboot

4. Hardware check through running devmgmt.msc - was fine

5. Will run last resort and see what that brings up.

6. I ran Malwarebytes, Norton, Spybot, Ccleaner, and Cleanup. No virus came up.

Data Execution Prevention issue came up. Window prompted to close Windows Explorer

Ran eventvmr.msc and these issues came up fairly close in time. It was when I was running a AVI movie file.
