I have been having problems watching porn on my computer. When i download a movie, WMP does not display the correct time (length) of the movie. For instance, if I let the movie play it will run 2 hours long, however, if I move that little thingy at the bottom of the screen (the one that fastforwrd or rewinds) it only goes up to an hour. So basically, I cant fast foward past a certain point of movies. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance for any help.

Sometimes its just the file that is corrupted somehow. Does this happen with EVERY file?

Try installing the newest version of WMP and do a Windows Update.

Also, check for viruses, spyware etc.

therock,

Which version of WMP are you using? I would be careful about updating to version 10 as there seem to be some real security issues with it. I'm still using ver. 9 and it seems to work OK. Haven't run into that problem. Sounds like it may have been corrupted. I'm not sure but you can probably delete it and then reinstall. See if that works.

I'm using WMP 10 and doesn't seem to be any problems. Of course I know how to use a computer, so that helps. j/k ;)

CMan,

I'm having to think back a bit but the problems that I remember reading about had to do with ver. 10 reporting back to MS on virtually everything that was played. I used it briefly a while back and remember that every time I fired it up, it wanted to access the internet. Most of the time I would deny it and then it would do something strange. It would mute my volume and raise the volume to max at the same time. I looked all over the place for a cure to this behavior and couldn't find a thing. It was really perturbing. Even after I uninstalled ver. 10 the behavior continued.

I just recently reformatted and reinstalled and kept ver. 9 and the behavior has not reoccurred. So I can't absolutely say that ver. 10 was the culprit but I'm about 90 some % positive it was.

And yes, I did update all of my drivers before and after the reformat so I don't think those were the problem.

I think trying to "hide" from Microsoft is a losing battle. Consider the entire OS is a Microsoft product, you have a lot more to worry about than the media player.

There have been rumors or them gathering stats since Windows 95, so its not exactly breaking news. I would just forget about it, as you can't do much to stop it.

They don't care about joe blow anyway. They care about corporations buying 1 license and using it on 1000 computers etc.

CMan,

"Hiding" from MS is a losing battle, no doubt about that. But I also don't want to give them (or anyone else) any more info than I have to. Given the current situation with ID theft, it seems prudent to me to deny as much info as I can. How much good does that do with MS? Jeez, who knows what this OS is really capable of. I'll just continue to deny any info that I can.
