Making Firefox faster

If your using windows (most people do) and your running IE (which most people do), then go download firefox here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Now for those of you who do have firefox, this will make it run a lot faster:

If you have DSL/cable or anything higher then 56K, then you'll notice a big diffrence.

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

I recently had a problem with IE. Everytime I opened it, my computer would restart on it's own.

I called tech after tech, only to get disconnected one time, had to let them go so they could further evaluate the problem on their own time, couldn't understand them while they tripped over their tongue, and I finally hung up on one tech cause she just ran me in circles for about an hour and a half.

She put me on hold to further look into the problem and I hung up on her, especially since everytime she asked me something, I answered, she paused, then asked me if I was still there.

Why not just have an automated message saying, "If you'd like to wait for a tech, please be prepared to be screwed in the process..."

Anyway, I finally chose to get on the internet through "My Computer" and downloaded Firefox. Works wonders, so far. In the meantime, anyone know how to uninstall IE? Just so I can get rid of it and any other crap that was causing it to malfunction. If you guys think that's a bad idea, let me know. I've tried running Norton's Anti-Virus and Webroot's Spy Sweeper to find the problem with my IE, but nothing helps. Either way, Firefox seems to be a good choice. Never heard of it until I joined exp0sed.

Hey Cyber,

The first question is, what OS are you using? If your using XP there is no real way that I know of to uninstall IE other than the following. Click on the Start button, then Control Panel. The Control Panel window will open then click on Add/Remove Programs. Once thats up, on the left hand side, you should see Add/Remove Windows Components. Click on that and then scroll down and you'll see IE listed. Get rid of the check mark to the left and that will at least get IE off the desktop. To reinstall just go back to the same place and add the checkmark. How well will this work? Probably not (I imagine you already went through this with tech support). IE is integrated into XP and, from what I know, cannot really be deleted. The only other way I know of is to reformat and reinstall. Maybe someone else has a better idea.

Yeah, I happened to end up doing it that way. Seems the only thing I could do as far as getting rid of IE. My OS is XP, nothing "special" from what it seems, but I guess it gets the job done. Since using Firefox, I haven't had any problems with my computer restarting on it's own, so I suppose I minimized whatever problem I had just by simply not using IE. My guess, as well as a tech's, is that some files in IE are corrupted and most likely I don't think they are repairable. I even tried to redownload IE from the Microsoft site, but their site seems to just confuse me the more I look at it. Like I said before, I never heard of Firefox until exp0sed, so something VERY good came from this site, besides the usual celeb pics. Firefox rocks my socks! :crazy:

Hey Cyber,

The problem is that your not out of the woods yet. Firefox is great, I use it 99% of the time. I only use IE when I have to, and, unfortunately, there are times when I have to, i.e., Windows Update and some other web sites. I just spent the last two days repartitioning and reformatting drives and had to get a new driver for an ATI video card. Only IE would let me in correctly. Firefox was gobbledygook. So I think that you had better prepare for reinstall.

Your only other option is to see if there is a website out there that lists every IE file, its location, and all registry changes. Then go ahead and delete every file and change every registry entry and then reinstall IE. Personally, I'd bet that this option will smoke the OS forcing you to reinstall, but, who knows. I'd just go ahead and reformat and reinstall. If all goes OK the reinstall is not all that bad.

i've tried everywhere else, since i installed 1.0.2 firefox it doesn't work like it used to, it doesn't load pictures/gifs, and basically the page just wont load properly.

i've tried:
- the load images checking unchecking shit
- the clean install thing
- the profile thing

anyone have any other ideas, like maybe editing preferences, and how to do that. i realyl would be so happy if you would help

Hey mcfly26,

This is probably too simplistic but try this. Click on Tools (on the Toolbar), then Options. A window pops up and on the left hand side click on Web Features. Make sure there is no check mark in the "for the originating web site only" box. If there is a check mark get rid of it and click on OK. Shut down Firefox and restart. Thats the most obvious answer.

If that doesn't work you have more to do.
