I just got a .com name of a friend and thought id have a go at making my own forum...much like this one....as we need more well run, organised celeb forums.

I cant fucking get it to link right..it wont link to the index.php page for some reason.. any ideas?

if you have an index.htm (or .html) or default.htm (or .html), delete them, because the server will choose the index file alphabetically by extension (html before php).

are you running a unix / linux server? if so, its a just a config setting. a fairly easy way to solve that is with an .htaccess file.

just put this line in it:

DirectoryIndex index.php

i think thats right. that will set it as the default index file.

there is tons of stuff you can set with .htaccess, include hotlink protection and custom error documents. just google it, its worth learning about, if you don't know already.

You should disable "Always allow HTML" in your admin area, because if its enabled, that will allow people to plant viruses and other forms of spam and crap in their posts.

Thats why they invented BB code, cause it only allows you to do certain things.

i don't remember anything about phpbb anymore lol. i used to know it well, but its been a long time. its probably just one of the many differences between the two forums and why one costs money and the other is free.

the main reason i stopped using phpbb is because its notorious for security holes and when this forum started to get really busy, i got more and more concerned about that sort of thing.

Yeah if it does eventually get real busy ill def look into upgrading to vbulletin.

One last thing..........Any chance you can just put the word around about the site now its up and running, just so i can start to get it rolling, get a few member,mods, etc

whatever, its not a big deal.

the forum pages are kind of confusing to modify. it takes a lot of figuring out and a lot of getting used to. i rememer it took me a long time to get it all figured out.

try looking for a file named "footer.php" or something to that effect.

it might be a good idea to keep a back up copy of your page, incase you screw it up, you can upload the original backup copy.

How many gigs of transfer does exp0sed get through per month?
I just checked for my host and its 250gb per mo....Though i dont know what that is in equivelant to visitors...probably more than ill need but just wondering if anyone knew. Thanks.

you mean 250 is the limit for your plan? that should be plenty for now until your site gets popular. i wouldn't worry about it for now. i haven't really paid attention to my own lately, but i think the forum normally uses a few hundred gigs a month.
