Is it too early to start this?
With candidates throwing their hats in the ring, and still about 18 months to go, this one could be interesting. Hilary, McCain, Obama, Giuliana... all the big names are lining up for a shot at the big job.
So yeah, I'm Australian, but I'm wondering. Can anyone really beat Hilary? Can McCain overcome his not-entirely-Republican views to grab the nomination? Would the US vote for a black guy?
I'd love to know what the citizens of the US are thinking. In Australia, the government (who are friends with Bush) look like they will lose our elections at the end of the year due to Iraq and other international issues.
How's the US thinking?

I think its really a bit early. Most people around here (at least from what I've observed) don't really care alot yet. Only the 24 hour news channels seem to care at the moment.

McCain is turning into an old man who rambles on about things. Giuliani is too liberal for the GOP to nominate him. Obama needs more time in the senate. I like him and he is very eloquent and personable, but its too early for him. Clinton, honeslty I think she could get the Dems nomination, but i doubt shed win, only because there are moderate dems who wouldnt vote for her because she is a woman. I think she could be pretty good but i dont see it happening.

Pretty much agree with all that. I was going to support McCain until he started supporting the war so vociferously. I think that was probably a major mistake for him.

So far, the most interesting thing I've seen about the coming election are the choices for the Republicans (and especially the religious right). Who exactly are they going to support? Brownback seems about their only real choice at the moment.
