Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.
Anything by P.G. Wodehouse

The Watchers was brilliant...but the other 2 of his I read, read kinda like a college thesis. Lotsa big words just for the sake of big words...

I love the Ann Rice books..

Rice is another one. Loved Servant of the Bones, and Witching Hour was about 70% good....but the vampire stuff of hers I read was just boring to me. Slow and methodical to the point of falling asleep mid-sentence...

also I am a huge Stephen King mark... i just wish he would stop ruining his books by making crappy movies from them..

It has been a great shame that most of Kings books have been ruined but i think films such as Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption, Misery, Carrie and The Green Mile should be recognised as good films. Not sure where the Running man stands in this? But as we all know, in any democratic society, majority rules. So they are in the Main(e) :wink: crap.

I would have to agree that those are all quality movies in themselves.. but if you have read the books, they movies do not compare.. sadly.. Like I said, i am a HUGE king fan, and own all his books, and all his movies.. and if i have the time i will choose to read the book over watching the movie..

The only exception to this rule is Stand By me.. which was originally a short story.. which became a PHENOMENAL movie..

I kinda liked the film adaptation of King's Hearts in Atlantis too.If you've read the book, you'll know it's actually comprised of three (seemingly?) unrelated stories.
They chose (wisely) to just go with the first (and imho best) story which is about a boy who befriends a psychic on the run.

Actually the 3 stories in HIA are all related as the main male character is the same in all three stories.. it is his story about the three times in his life that affected him the most.. a good book..

The movie wasn't bad.. but it would have been better if it had utilized the whole book somehow.. that is all..

And of course, seeing as it is not just a clever name, pretty much all religious texts: The Testaments, The Koran, The Bhagavad Gita, etc.

I can't get into fiction (you know, except the Religious texts) as much anymore, but I liked William Diehl back in the day. I have all of William Gibson's works and I keep vowing to finish them.

I recently read Who Moved My Cheese? to see what the fuss was about...

What a bunch of BS!!!
Look, I know it's a parable (story with a hidden lesson), but don't waste your time. I can sum up the lesson in one sentence: One must adapt to change and not resist it.

Thank god I downloaded the e-book and didn't pay money for this garbage!

Got about 20 pages into 7 Habits For Highly Effective People before I tossed it...

Have self-help books made any impact whatsoever on any of you?

The only self-help book I can reccommend is Oh, The Places You'll Go! by Dr Seuss. I'm serious... Check it out when you need a pick-me-up!!

Self-help books are only helpful to the person who wrote them and the company who publishes them. The alleged "professionals" who write this crap are usually the bottom of the respect barrel in their chosen "professions". They are like radio psychologists for the deaf. Chicken Soup for my ass, and all of those "follow me and get rich" jackasses should end their books with, "The key to making a lot of money is writing a self-help book."

I read Bad Place....neat idea, but the execution was kinda weak, imo. Sole Survivor was the other I read....it was better, but still didn't come close to Watchers
