fave books

I have always liked the "Bill the galactic hero" books by Harry Harrison for the stupidity of them and all of Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion books.

The DaVinci Code is very, very good. How many of you that have read it have gone back to look at The Last Supper since finishing the book?

I read The War Magician not so long ago, about a guy who made a whole harbour appear a few miles down the coast to stop the germans bombing it. beat that Copperfield!

for a laugh - He died With a Felafel in his hand is a good (short) read

I read The DaVinci Code in a day. I had an all day flight with 3 legs from Vegas/Chicago/Baltimore/Orlando. I didn't have the luxury of pulling up images on the Internet as I read. But when I got home I did pull up most of the art he referenced. Pretty amazing.

I just bought Angels and Demons today.

Florida Roadkill, Hammerhead Ranch Motel, Orange Crush, Triggerfish Twist, and The Stingray Shuffle all by Tim Dorsey are pretty funny. Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch novels are also really good, if you like crime fiction.

I recently finished reading "The Alchemist" by Paul Coelho because apparently it's critically acclaimed.

I just wanted to say don't bother... It's really gay!

"Post Office" by Charles Bukowski was pretty good, though!

The Da Vinci Code

I definitely admit that the book was cool,
but i have to say that it was a bit gimmicky.
By that, I simply mean that the chapters always ended with
some sort of cliffhanger. Just got old after a while...

Anyways, my real reason for posting here today is this:

I recently attented a public reading by Chuck Palahniuk at the University of Michigan.
He was touring in promotion of his book Diary, which was being released on paperback, and read a short story called Guts.
Guts was originally released on his website and has been published in Playboy and other magazines.
Let me first say that it is one of the sickest stories I have ever heard! But the odd thing is, I found myself laughing at most of it. To truly understand read it yourself: http://www.seizureandy.com/stuff/guts.html

As Chuck read the story some redheaded kid passed out. After that happened, Chuck explained that many people have passed out or thrown up during the many readings of the story. Later on, during the book signing session, I overheard the kid denying that he passed out. He could have been faking it, but he did look like a little bitch of a kid.
Anyways, here's more on the "pass out" phenomena: http://dotavery.com/blog/archive/2004/01/27/371.aspx

kick ass books

Gotta chime in here for www.zrem.com. This guys books rock in a big way which for me as a firefighter helps spend the time around the house. Merz's books have alot of kung fu, action, and cool supernatural spies. I dig 'em in a big way. Cool and quick reads. Awesome.

That's kind of a surprising list given the original publication dates of the books. Any particular reason Gitman??? :?:
