Hey Ice,

"DRIVE MORE FUEL-EFFICIENT VEHICLES!!!"

The only problem with that is, currently, there are what? Only 3 or 4 models? Maybe people are getting the idea.

Well, there are maybe 3 or 4 different models of hybrids, I agree. However, switching from an SUV to a regular 4-door car or from a high-performance sportscar to a Volvo or something like that would improve one's fuel efficiency by at least 10 mpg and even up to 20 or 25 mpg. This would cut fuel costs by quite a bit AND save the environment.

Every industrialised nation on Earth could meet the Kyoto Protocol's targets and then some if their citizens would drive more fuel-efficient vehicles.

boriqueno,

You want to support nations that support terrorists, go ahead. The sooner we get away from oil, the better off we'll all be.

Paid almost $45 to fill up a Toyota Tacoma. $2.66 per gallon and that was 4 cents cheaper than others in the area.

Anyone else notice that Walmarts stock took a bit of a nosedive as they reported far poorer sales than projected. Seems these prices will have an effect.

Sounds like we'd better get ready for even higher prices!

Matthew Simmons, an oil analyst and advisor to the Bush admin. was on a show last night and suggested $100+ per barrel oil is probably just around the corner. He seems to think that oil production has already peaked and, if so, we have no "Plan B".

Here's his site:

And two interesting presentations on the problem that he's recently given (pdf format):

August 23, Honolulu, $2.76
Overall $2.76 is extremely good compared to other places. Right now where I am it's $3.60. So don't complain about $2.76!! ;)

Ice,

Whoa! Kunstler sure has some interesting ideas.

A prediction. Everyone in the States had better fill up their tanks today because gas will probably be at least $3.00 per gallon tomorrow. Looks like Katerina is going to wipe out a bunch of oil platforms and who knows what else.

RIP New Orleans?

Another new high today, $71.85, but watch out. Depending on what happens in the next two days we in the States could be looking at $4 to $5 per gallon. We're catching up with you guys outside the States.

that the same kunstler that was the defense lawyer for the terrorists in the 92 bombing of the wtc??

hurricane katrina is the FIRST legitimate reason for gas prices to jump at all... everything ti date, and within two days past the posting of this, has been purely speculative and unjustified... period... perhaps with this terrible disaster called katrina, we can finally start drilling in alaska and off the pacific and atlantic coasts... domestic oil is cheaper than imported oil 100% of the time...
