lol im sorry dudes ive been playin all my life and i dnt like what i see here. not dissing u guys. there is no "best" only but opinion. but in terms of techniqality it would go 2 rusty cooley. in terms of techniquality + creativity steve vai. but thats only where it starts. my personal fave is zakk wylde and his earlier stuff and the country shred with chickin pickin.

I'd say it depends how you judge it. Speed/technicality I'd say Malmsteen. Using some of that technique and adding emotion I'd say Vai, and the just kick ass attitude pouring his emotions into it while still playing good I'd have to say Slash

Really new here and really late getting on this thread but its a good thing actually. I agree with as many opinions as I disagree with. So much depends on individual ears and personal bias. I've always enjoyed listening to the ones we are here praising make their own personal choices. I saw in the beginning of this thread that Hendrix named a favorite completely different from what I heard recently on some VH1 special. Hendrix named Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. Big Surprise. I've seen Clapton name Robert Cray though I would have never chosen him in my top 10 list. Many obscure names like Leo Kottke will never make it here. Was amazed by him and many other studio musician, "guns for hire" pickers that could stand up to most of the greats to be mentioned.
