zin, it is literally impossible to do that... the President is the highest ranking military officer in the US... because of LAWS, certain orders must be disobeyed if given... the lefties would love to hold President Bush accountable for abu graib and anything that MIGHT have happened at club gitmo, but they fail to take the next step... the soldiers carrying out orders deemed them valid and lawful... IF egragious acts are carried out, the lefties, to have half a leg to stand on, must impugn the entire military and all who serve in it as well as the President and secdef... you simply cant have one without the other... any criticism of the actions taken by the military is a criticism OF the military... period...
regarding your second point, please find and read the 2002 state of the union speech... President Bush made mention of how terrorism was to be defined, and the rules the US would use in combating it.. congress, in an overwhelmingly bipratisan manner, passed legislation supporting his words... in short, terrorists anywhere in the world are fair game, and any nation that harbors or supports terrorists is considered a terrorist nation, and thereby also fair game... iraq under saddam MAY not have had anything to do with 9/11/01, but he DID support al quaeda, and he DID harbor terrorists... he also donated to the "suicide bomber life insurance fund"... it isnt about lost freedom, it is about killing the bad guys, so they dont blow up hospitals, markets, schools, airplanes, and skyscrapers... when the lives of innocents are the stated target of this scourge, being proactive is the only way to fight this menace... bottom line, it was, and remains, a preventative measure... saddam will no longer support terrorism, and i, for one, feel much better about the terrorists fighting legitimate armed servicemembers NOT on American soil, than i would if it was the terrorists targeting American civillians here at home...
mindido, an ad hominem... how novel and surprising... when in doubt, or in a position of weakness, start name calling and mud slinging... learn what facism is before using the word as a descriptive of someone... facists take peoples guns away... facists outlaw speech... facists dont believe in capitalism...
mindido and iceberg, under what circumstances would you say a war SHOULD be fought??? how far should it go, and what are your conditions for victory, if any?? i believe what we have here is a case of ashamed pacifists, though i am not sure... here is a quote for you to consider...
“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
