I agree, I think that you might be missing my point though. ALL those guys I listed have a TON of charisma. However it took many mnay years (except Cena) for them to find their pulse with the crowd.
WCW fired Austin and Foley and the reasons why are well known, basically no one knew how to use them. Austin surely didn't get over right away as "the ringmaster" in the wwe he even jobbed clean to Savio Vega once.
DDP was a manager and didn't start wrestling untill he was in his 30's. Even Ric Flair said he is the biggest suprise he ever saw. I never really cared for DDP but you can't deny that the crowd loved him for whatever reason.
NO ONE and I mean no one thought JBL would amount to shit, I mean he is fat and is an average wrestler at best, he came to the ring with a whip and was called Blackjack Bradshaw or something at one time. Many people thought it was a complete joke (and still do) that he beat Eddie Guerero for the title. The wwe finally gave him a chance to run with the ball and he did very well. IMO the only reason he was given a shot was because they realized he was very well spoken and smart because of his CNBC appearences.
You could even throw the rock in the mix. He was a complete joke when he came out as Rocky Miavia (SP?). He looked like some kind of jerry curled Hula dancer.
Hell Kane could be put into that category as well, before being the undertakers brother he was "fake" Diesel. Not exactly the best way to win over fans. Then he had the LAME gimmick of the masked bro of taker that can produce fire by moving his arms. Even when his mask came off and there was nothing wrong with his appearence other than shaved eyebrows he was still over. Now he is a huge superstar, former champ (beating Austin in his prime) and the wwe made a movie around him.
My point is that it takes time in most cases to channel ones charisma into a way that the crowd will react. So its hard to determine who will make it big and who won't based on.. anything really. Polumbo might have charisma he might not but its very hard to say unless they give him or anyone a shot.
Goldberg is an exception (as well as Cena). Goldberg came along at the perfect time with the perfect look. IMO he has ZERO charisma. Has he ever cut a good promo? Unless charisma is defined by swinging your arms up and down like an idiot and sticking your tongue out, then he is full of charisma. When I say he didn't deserve what he got, I mean that there were a shitload of guys in WCW that deserved the title because of the years of hard work they put in at that time long before Goldberg came along (Rey, Benoit, Hall, Eddie, Jericho just to name a few).
